Tagajo Station is roughly a 30 minute train trip due east from the Sendai metropolitan area on the Senseki Line. Continue on past Tagajo and the train will take you out to Ishinomaki City on the Miyagi Prefecture coastline.
Sometimes we traveled as a family by train from Tagajo Station into Sendai Station, for the short trip away, in order to take in the Sendai Tanabata Festival. (NOTE: Please see my "Sendai Tanabata Festival" post for festival details.) The spectacular, colorful streamers, hanging majestically along a nearby archade from the high arches above, never disappoint. Every visitor falls under the transforming spell of the streamers and the ancient Chinese legend, which tells of the annual one-night rendezvous, weather permitting, between a beautiful princess weaver and her cow herder love.
Tagajo Station, itself elevated, survived the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. However, as one walks through the adjacent village, blue markers highlight the depth, at about 3 meters, to which the Tsunamis encroached upon the town. There was considerable property damage to storefronts, filling stations, and residences throughout the area.
The Tagajo train station offers easy access by stairs, escalators, and elevators to train platforms. And, the directions in which trains are headed are clearly marked. One platform serves both directions.
I had to stop by this station to get to a Local shop, T Crimb.

The station was smaller and clean. But the the staff wasn't as helpful as I was asking for landmarks.
He pointed me in the wrong side of the station and I exited that way. I looked for a specific store and someone showed me where it was.
But like an station, it was pretty efficient.

In December, illuminations appear at the station's east exit plaza.
Places you can go to by train.
It used to be above ground, and there were railroad crossings to the east and west of the station building, which obstructed traffic flow, so the elevated structure was realized.
As seen from Sendai, there is an escalator on the side of the first car, for people who are going to and from Sendai (up only on the platform bound for Sendai, only down on the platform bound for Higashi-Shiogama).
The elevator is in the middle of the platform
The stairs are closer to Sendai
The New Days convenience store at the station is only available inside the ticket gate and cannot be entered from outside.
There is still a Midori-no-madoguchi counter, and you can buy reserved tickets at the counter.
Morning station.
I feel refreshed. The station rotary is free for 30 minutes. Convenient for meetings.
